How do you make graffiti paint marker/mop ink?

Sorry bout this. Newish to graffiti, well not really but someone always makes me ink and paint and stuff and I want to make some of my own. I have some acrylic paints in some sick colors and empty mops and markers. Lil help please :]

here is a good way to do it. take a glue stick and empty out the glue, then pur half paint color of choice, and half thinner, then put cotton down it, and close the top, shake it up, and try it out. Never done this before but heard it works. I am more of a spray painter.

Painting Business - the Top 10 Things You Must Know to Start a Successful Painting Business

I started my own painting business back in 1991. As someone who had done painting off and on before I figured I knew all about how to paint. I was wrong.

So, exactly how much painting experience do you need to start a painting business of your own? Below are the top 10 things you should know to become a successful house painter.

1. You need to know basic stuff like when and why to use primers.

Example: You cannot paint latex over alkyd (oil base) unless it was a "flat" sheen like wall paint. Otherwise you will get "peeling".

Neither can you paint new alkyd enamels over existing alkyd enamel finishes without priming first with an enamel under coater primer (whew!). Otherwise "chipping" will occur. A common error with older alkyd enamel woodwork.

2. You need a system for getting your prep work done fast.

Example: For example, when painting walls, I like to apply the first coat of paint before I do any basic drywall repairs of things like holes, stress cracks, loose tape seams, etc. That way you get to know the walls and the trouble areas show up easier because of the fresh paint.

3. You need to know the best time-saving techniques or speed tips to make the most money per job. Things as simple as having a fan available to quick-dry freshly painted walls and ceilings so you can get on with cutting in the second coat.

4. You need to know which paints are the best to use. Once I find my favorite products I stay with them because I know them well and how they perform. Also, I like to use name brand leaders like Benjamin Moore. Name brands that represent high quality to the homeowner. Cheap paint takes more effort and doesn't make your job look as good afterwards anyways.

5. You need to know how to do basic drywall or plaster repairs. Basic repairs like loose tape lines, fixing water damage, etc. When I fist started my painting business I didn't even know how to fix a hole in the wall caused by a doorknob (a common repair).

6. You need to know about stain blocking. Stains like water spots, ink spots, etc. that permeate through latex finishes. Ignoring stains causes bleed-thru. I use a simple spray product for interior spot priming that stops ink and other spots dead in their tracks. It's called "Krylon Fusion". It dries to touch in just a minute or two, even though it's solvent-based.

7. You need to know about hard to cover colors. Certain colors can require multiple coats to cover well and you need to know what you can use to tackle this and speed things up. And even when to charge more for this also.

8. You need to know about staining and varnishing. Many painters cannot match stains properly. You can do it easily if you know just one simple trick. Staining and varnishing new windows or woodwork is easy once you have done it.

As a matter of fact, it's easier and more fun than painting the windows and can command higher profits because most people are afraid of staining. (Remember, everyone thinks they know how to paint right?, but staining is another story!)

9. You need to know effective advertising. A new painter cannot afford expensive advertising that doesn't always work well anyways. Placing a Yellow Pages ad can take 7 or 8 months to come out. You need fast, cheap, effective direct marketing secrets and alternative methods that get customers immediately like clockwork whenever you need them.

10. You need to know about estimating. Most new painters wind up eating their jobs and leave a lot of money on the table. Especially on exterior bids. When you know how to effectively estimate all your work you will make a lot of money as a painter, guaranteed.

ok, so i know what kind of tattoo i want, its similar to this:

I dont want it too big, I have a small body frame to begin with. and i want it only in black, no color, and instead of lucky in the scroll it says "Big Bird" the nickname I gave to a very close friend who died recently, saving one of my best friends, his girlfriend, in the process. so please no criticism on the idea, cause it means a lot to me.

All Pokemon available in Japanese version of Silver?

I've been playing the Japanese version of Pokemon Silver on an emulator on my phone. Someone told me that there are no restrictions on which pokemon you can catch, and that in the Japanese version its possible to get all of the pokemon without trading. Is this true? I'm asking because I have a Kadabra and I want to know if it's going to evolve without being traded...

Well, that friend really doesn't know pokemon. There is not one pokemon game where you can just catch all the pokemon with just the game. You will need to trade, get cheats, and other stuff to be able to get everything.

From Ivanhoe to Disney: a Brief Look at Silver Lake in Los Angeles

Puccini and Toscanini were not only musical geniuses but were also the unknowing creators of pop culture. Their opera, La Boheme, introduced Bohemian Culture into mainstream, if not stodgy, society. The Bohemian designation has since become a category for the artistic minded and the edgy among us. The Silver Lake area of Los Angeles carries its Bohemian moniker with pride. But Silver Lake’s cool and differently unique vibe hides an even more unusual history.

Silver Lake was founded by Hugo Reid, a Scottish immigrant to the United States who in 1852 wrote a series of letters that were published in a local newspaper that described the culture and language of the local Gabrieliño Indians (Native Americans). He also admonished local officials and clergy for their harsh treatment of the Gabrieliños under the Franciscan Mission system. Hugo Reid originally named the Silver Lake area, and more specifically the man-made reservoir at its center, Ivanhoe, after the page turning 1819 Sir Walter Raleigh Scott novel of the same name. Interestingly, some of the main streets in Silver Lake still carry the name of some of the characters in Ivanhoe, such as Rowena and Herkimer. Also, the chief elementary school in the area is named Ivanhoe.

The reservoir is divided into upper and lower sections. The upper part is still named Ivanhoe. However, the lower part is named Silver Lake. That name brings lovely clear water images to mind. But the lower section of the reservoir was named after Herman Silver, a member of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. He put the reservoir to use by supplying water to South Los Angeles. As the population north of Los Angeles increased in the twentieth century, the reservoir began supplying water to the nearby area. In 2007, the Silver Lake reservoir was decommissioned due to high levels of bromate. Currently, plans are underway to use an underground reservoir in Griffith Park to supply water to the Silver Lake area. The Silver Lake reservoir is also in the process of being converted from utilitarian to recreational. The area will be replete with a track and a dog park.

When the mission system ended and the twentieth century bloomed, Silver Lake became a secondary home to the entertainment industry of Hollywood. Several studios and production companies laid down roots in the area, including Walt Disney who built his first large studio on Hyperion. Also of note, Laurel & Hardy’s famous movie The Music Box filmed a critical scene in front of the staircase of a house located on Descanso Drive. The area is now home to such hip celebrities as Christina Ricci, Rachel McAdams, Kiefer Sutherland and Ryan Gosling, among many others.

Anais Nin, a remarkable French writer, mentioned Silver Lake in her Journals Volume Six. She was once a resident of Silver Lake and penned these words in the Fall of 1961, “the mountains on the east side of the lake looked like a Japanese screen. As the sun set, every evening presented a spectacle equal to a Russian ballet, all gold and trailing saris, or the Chinese opera, all red and smoky incense, or the opal coral islands of the South Seas, the flaming spill of Mexican sunsets.”

Poetry aside, Silver Lake is home to a bustling Greenwich Village vibe. In this midst, Creative Environments of Hollywood, Inc. Got White Hair? You Are Senile!

Miss Dorothy, who cut and colored my hair for years, retired. I was devastated. After all, she's just a kid - she's only sixty. However, after I understood that she had a good reason to call it quits, I wished her well.

But I miss her. She could make my sparse locks look as big and mean as an angry hornet's nest.

Most of all I miss her wisdom. For example, she said that she would rather be bald than have white hair. I really didn't get the significance of that until I decided to let my hair go back to its natural color - white.

Miss Dorothy grudgingly made the color change during the last months she worked and at the end, insisted on putting on some blond color. "No one is going to call you a little old lady with this sexy color," she assured me.

I quickly let the blond thing go. Too much trouble to keep it up.

Big mistake.

No - a huge mistake.

Now, for women whose hair is gray, white or something in between, and happy with it - my blessings upon you. May you never suffer "white hair discrimination."

Here's the thing: When you have white hair, you are perceived as o-l-d. No matter what your face and or body look like, white hair categorizes you in an instant. It tells the world who and what you are, even if you are prematurely gray or white. You are an old person. There is no getting around it.

What's wrong with that? Well, basically, people, especially young people, treat you differently. It's not my imagination - it's real. It goes beyond the "looking old" issue - it relates to perception of ability. "Old" women simply aren't viewed as competent as young people.

It's different with men. They can have white hair, no hair, a face full of overgrown grubby vegetation, look like a grizzled old goat, and it's okay. They don't look old. They look distinguished. They are considered competent. Yuck.

In the doctor's office recently, the young nurse gave me instructions for taking care of my husband's minor surgery. She didn't explain it to him - I guess that since he looks older than I and has white hair, she assumed he was too senile to understand.

She spoke directly to me as if he didn't exist. What needed to be done wasn't difficult: clean the incision with antibacterial solution and apply antibiotic ointment daily. Then she said to me, "Do you need me to write that down?" Well, maybe some folks would appreciate that but I didn't.

Please don't assume I'm senile until there is tangible evidence!

I'm thinking - if my hair color were different, would it have made a difference? Would she have taken for granted that I had the ability to understand and remember what she said?

Then there was the young woman who asked if I had any great grandkids. Excuse me? My grandchildren are barely teenage.

I'm thinking - if my hair were a young color, would the question have been about grandkids instead of great grandkids? Would she have asked about kids at all?

Then there's the annoyance at the supermarket. I know baggers are trained to offer help out to the car, but please, I can carry a head of cabbage all by myself.

Long story short: As soon as I find a replacement for the irreplaceable Miss Dorothy, I'm going to get a buzz cut. I have plenty of gel to make it stand up straight in the air. You know the look - "biker babe." And I've already purchased the sexy blond color Miss Dorothy would have used.

I asked my husband what he thought about my proposed hair cut and color. He assumed his irritating professorial stance and opined, "Hmmm. I don't think so. However, if you got tattoos on both your biceps it might work."

I knew I shouldn't have asked.

I'm going to go ahead with the buzz cut and blonde bombshell color - but not the tattoos. But I'll mull it over. My husband is rarely wrong. Even though he has white hair, I know he's not senile.

Chinese New Year Wall and Door Scrolls

The Chinese people have always been noted for their unique traditions, belief systems, and grand festivals. Chinese New Year is the most important of the all the holiday traditions in China. Millions of Chinese families around the world celebrate it each year. Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is no doubt the biggest holiday of the year for Chinese people. Chinese New Year falls either in January or February. The date varies every year with the celebration lasting fifteen days. For centuries, Chinese New Year has been surrounded by various traditions, one of which is the hanging of special wall and door scrolls and other decors that mark the arrival of spring. They include Nian hua, spring scrolls and decorative cutouts.

Nian hua, a special type of painting, is used to decorate homes in preparation for the Chinese New Year Festival. People hang Nian hua or Chinese New Year pictures to reflect wishes for the new year. This tradition dates back to the Pre-Qin Period 221 B.C. Back then, Nian hua were popular house decorations and were especially common during Chinese New Year. The ancient Chinese were into posting images of their “gods” on the front doors. These “gods” were their protectors and ushers of good fortune. They are also believed to ward off evil spirits.

Spring good luck poems or spring poetic couplets are also common to see. These writings in black ink on red paper or scrolls convey special messages. They are commonly put on the walls or gates of stores for everyone to see. They express wishes for prosperity, happiness, protection and luck. Hanging them on the storefront also means you are saying goodbye to the past and are ready to welcome the year. Chinese idioms are also traditionally written on red spring scrolls and are displayed in most homes. These banners either wish people “good luck” or display simple greetings. Gong xi fa cai and Kung hsi fa tsai are some of the most common greetings for the holiday.

Another popular red poster to see is the diamond-shaped paper with the most popular Chinese character for luck, 'Fu'. The Chinese character 'Fu' sounds like the Chinese word for “bat”. Bats are considered lucky in China. In Chinese, the upside down “Fu” means good luck came; hence, the poster is traditionally hung upside down.

Aside from wall and door scrolls, Chinese families also decorate their homes with flower and animal cutouts. People usually hang cutouts of the animals of the Chinese zodiac or fish. All the 12 animals are considered lucky while fish yu (fish) sounds like the Chinese word for 'surplus' which is why it’s also considered lucky.
