How do you make graffiti paint marker/mop ink?

Sorry bout this. Newish to graffiti, well not really but someone always makes me ink and paint and stuff and I want to make some of my own. I have some acrylic paints in some sick colors and empty mops and markers. Lil help please :]

here is a good way to do it. take a glue stick and empty out the glue, then pur half paint color of choice, and half thinner, then put cotton down it, and close the top, shake it up, and try it out. Never done this before but heard it works. I am more of a spray painter.

Painting Business - the Top 10 Things You Must Know to Start a Successful Painting Business

I started my own painting business back in 1991. As someone who had done painting off and on before I figured I knew all about how to paint. I was wrong.

So, exactly how much painting experience do you need to start a painting business of your own? Below are the top 10 things you should know to become a successful house painter.

1. You need to know basic stuff like when and why to use primers.

Example: You cannot paint latex over alkyd (oil base) unless it was a "flat" sheen like wall paint. Otherwise you will get "peeling".

Neither can you paint new alkyd enamels over existing alkyd enamel finishes without priming first with an enamel under coater primer (whew!). Otherwise "chipping" will occur. A common error with older alkyd enamel woodwork.

2. You need a system for getting your prep work done fast.

Example: For example, when painting walls, I like to apply the first coat of paint before I do any basic drywall repairs of things like holes, stress cracks, loose tape seams, etc. That way you get to know the walls and the trouble areas show up easier because of the fresh paint.

3. You need to know the best time-saving techniques or speed tips to make the most money per job. Things as simple as having a fan available to quick-dry freshly painted walls and ceilings so you can get on with cutting in the second coat.

4. You need to know which paints are the best to use. Once I find my favorite products I stay with them because I know them well and how they perform. Also, I like to use name brand leaders like Benjamin Moore. Name brands that represent high quality to the homeowner. Cheap paint takes more effort and doesn't make your job look as good afterwards anyways.

5. You need to know how to do basic drywall or plaster repairs. Basic repairs like loose tape lines, fixing water damage, etc. When I fist started my painting business I didn't even know how to fix a hole in the wall caused by a doorknob (a common repair).

6. You need to know about stain blocking. Stains like water spots, ink spots, etc. that permeate through latex finishes. Ignoring stains causes bleed-thru. I use a simple spray product for interior spot priming that stops ink and other spots dead in their tracks. It's called "Krylon Fusion". It dries to touch in just a minute or two, even though it's solvent-based.

7. You need to know about hard to cover colors. Certain colors can require multiple coats to cover well and you need to know what you can use to tackle this and speed things up. And even when to charge more for this also.

8. You need to know about staining and varnishing. Many painters cannot match stains properly. You can do it easily if you know just one simple trick. Staining and varnishing new windows or woodwork is easy once you have done it.

As a matter of fact, it's easier and more fun than painting the windows and can command higher profits because most people are afraid of staining. (Remember, everyone thinks they know how to paint right?, but staining is another story!)

9. You need to know effective advertising. A new painter cannot afford expensive advertising that doesn't always work well anyways. Placing a Yellow Pages ad can take 7 or 8 months to come out. You need fast, cheap, effective direct marketing secrets and alternative methods that get customers immediately like clockwork whenever you need them.

10. You need to know about estimating. Most new painters wind up eating their jobs and leave a lot of money on the table. Especially on exterior bids. When you know how to effectively estimate all your work you will make a lot of money as a painter, guaranteed.

Antique Lamps for the English Look

Imari Lamps - the Rise & Rise of Oriental Décor

The West has had a love affair with Chinese & Japanese decorative arts for the past 350 years! & it is still growing in popularity.

In 1650, The Dutch East India Company opened the doors of Europe to the discovery of Japanese porcelain. To the Europeans, it was “love at first sight” when the bright Imari porcelain first arrived.

The name “Imari” is derived from the name of the trading port granted by the Japanese Emperor. Soon these highly decorative porcelain patterns became known as “Imari”.

The decoration was in fact, derived from the sometimes identical patterns found in Japanese textiles & brocades. A standard range of colours make up the traditional palette. These being a rich cobalt blue combined with deep iron red to produce the basic colours which are then often embellished with pale blue, yellow, aubergine, greens & black.

What is it with famous painting reproductions being tacky and what is the solution?

I would like for people in the know to give me their opinion on why some interior designers (and others) think that handpainted reproductions of famous art (van Gogh, Picasso, etc.) are considered tacky and shouldn't be bought? What if there is a painting I really love like van Gogh's Starry Night Painting; what if any is the solution to displaying reproductions of famous paintings in a tasteful manner?

INterior Designers (I am an Interior Architect) work for clients. It is their job to design something their client will enjoy living with. If you wanted reproduction Starry Nights, I would give them to you. But I would cringe. I have actually had clients ask me to find them a painting that is seven feet long and matches their sofa. Ugh. How totally tasteless to match your art to your furniture.

I would take you to galleries and show you original art in that vein you might like, but if you wanted Elvis on velvet or card playing dogs, as long as you were paying for my services, I would do it.

Spruce Up Your Home With Wall Transfers

Wall transfers are an inexpensive way to add an artistic flair to bare, boring walls. They come in a variety of sizes and styles, and appeal to a wide range of ages, looking great in every room, from the baby nursery and kids' rooms to the kitchen and living areas.

What are wall transfers? To answer that question, let me get off track for just a minute. Have you ever heard of temporary tattoos? If you have any little ones around, there is a good chance that you have! Kids love temporary tattoos, small paper-backed designs that are easily transferred to arms, hands and legs. Using a wet cloth to loosen the design from the paper backing, the tattoo is transferred to the skin, and lasts for a couple of days.

Transfers for walls are similar to temporary tattoos. The art design comes on a paper backing. Some are transferred to the walls using water, but most use an applicator tool, not water, to rub the transfer onto the wall surface. Applied properly, it's virtually impossible to differentiate between a wall transfer and a handpainted design!

Although they look handpainted, wall art transfers cost substantially less than hiring a painter or muralist to paint a design for you. Smaller designs will set you back twenty dollars or so. Larger mural-sized transfers may cost one hundred dollars or more, but this is still much less than it would cost to hire a professional. Even if you planned on tackling the project yourself, you will be glad to know that they can be put up in an afternoon.

They also come in a variety of sizes and styles. Tromp l'oeil, garden goodies, such as vines and flowers, jungle animals, dinosaurs, and much more - virtually anything you can imagine having painted on your walls! Letters and favorite sayings are also available. If you are thinking of decorating a nursery or play room, they even have licensed designs, such as the Disney Princesses and Pooh Bear.

You may never want to remove your wall rub ons, but at some point, you may need to redecorate. It is a good idea to hang on to the manufacturer's directions that explain the best way to remove the designs. However, believe it or not, most can simply be painted right over. You will need to first coat the design with a good primer once or twice, but then you should be able to repaint. Sounds easy, doesn't it - and it sure beats trying to remove wallpaper!

Wall transfers are quickly becoming favorite home decorating accessories for homeowers looking to add a personal touch to their living spaces. They give you the look of expensive hand painted designs, only without the time and money needed for those types of projects!
