The Mayor wants the emails of the people who signed a local petition I set up so she can write to them all.?

Does the data protection act allow this?
One member of my campaigning group sayd yes but I'm not sure.
Does anyone have any experience of this please?

If the people who signed the petition start getting unsolicited emails from a politician then they'll likely be annoyed. It's not proper to solicit personal information for one purpose then to give it to another party for it to be used in a different way. However if you asked the people to tick a box on the petition agreeing to their info being passed onto other parties, then it would be ok.

It may also be ok if the mayor agreed with your petition and was communicating with the people on that issue alone. It depends what the issue was. But can you trust her not to exploit the data?

Unfortunately you're in dander of a minor political quagmire now. Maybe just tell the mayor that you can't give her the email addresses because of Data protection. Or email your petitioners with a really simple couple of lines, asking them if it would be ok for you to pass the addresses onto others.

A Look at the Various Sign Language Phrases Used

Sign language is something which is used as a means of communication between people who are hard of hearing or deaf and cannot speak. They use hand signals, facial expressions, gestures, etc to effectively communicate with each other or with people of other nationalities or regions.

Sometimes, sign languages are also used by people who are not disabled. For example in instances where they cannot talk aloud such as in places of religious worship, in hospitals, in public libraries, in a recording studio or during hunting, people resort to using sign languages.

Sign languages have a set of rules just as any other language. These rules include the grammar. Sign languages vary depending on the area and country. Sign languages are not very popular even though they are easy and fun to learn especially for people who speak English or know the English language. With a little dedication you can actually be fluent in various Sign language phrases and converse fluently.

The various types of sign language include the American Sign Language, the British sign language, Finger spelling, pidgin sign language, Signed English, etc. The American Sign Language is very different from spoken English and uses various sign language phrases to convey meaning.

Various inflections are provided with the use of movement of the palm, expressions of the face and gestures. This form of communication has been in existence for ages now. Finger spelling is another variation. Though this looks simple it is very challenging. This form uses the alphabets and spells out words and sign language phrases. Though it is quite cumbersome and frustrating it effectively conveys the meaning to the listener. This is different from the American Sign Language in the sense that it spells out words whereas the ASL spells out the sign language phrases.

The signed English variation is in between the finger spelling and American Sign Language. It combines word gestures and single words to convey meaning. This variation is more effective for forming sign language phrases.

The pidgin sign English does not follow a set rule. It is a fluid form of sign language which is used by a lot of people. They use any gesture or expression which they think will convey the message effectively. There are no strict rules or technicalities that govern this variation of the sign language.

Forming sign language phrases using the hand shapes is quite effective. For example in order to form the phrase "merry Christmas" you have to touch the chest with circular movements with one or both hands flat. This conveys happy feelings. The right C hand is then moved in a sideways arc to the right with the palm facing upwards. To fully comprehend the meaning, lip reading should simultaneously be followed.

For the phrase "I love you", the right hand has to be held up while the palm faces forward. You have to then extend the index, little and thumb finger. This way the letters I, L and Y are combined to generate and convey meaning.

the drains are very old, they are in very good condition. they found in stoke could have been made by the Potters factory.

I would say they are worth about a quarter of what it will take to dig them out, then you have to replace them with new... a pointless excercise. I once found some pipework below ground in Derbyshire that broke modern regulations, I called in public health and was told to backfill them, that most of rural Derbyshire has them and the cost of replacement would be out of this world.

How do I get my house to quit smelling like dog?

I have two dogs and their smell was never an issue until now. Now my house is really starting to reek. I have tried baking soda in the carpets, carpet freshner, air freshner, ionic breeze, candles and incense. Any advice? I thought about one of those automatic freshners that sprays every few minutes. And no, I am not getting rid of the dogs.

I had the same problem until I discovered a steam cleaner, and yankee candles, you say you use candles, but yankee candles are wonderful, and smell delicious. I bought a couple of plug in's from them called "clean cotton" and they are wonderful, and last forever. Now people come into my home, and remark on how lovely it smells. And a steam cleaner will deep clean your carpets soft furnishings and hard floors.

How do crystals work? I believe in magic, and I think that’s a little bit of what every crystal holds magic! It has been discovered that every organ in the human (and animal) body vibrates to a certain frequency. So too do crystals, vibrate at a frequency. By matching these frequencies we are able to rebalance, or re-tune our bodies. Sometimes the crystals also introduce a new energy into the pet’s energy field, thereby uplifting them, or bringing them the ease from pain or grief they need at that time. For an introduction to the history of crystals see the books recommended on my website.

How can I use crystals to help my pet? The simplest way to use crystals is to purchase a couple of crystals, pop them into a little bag (so that we humans can find them again) and leave them somewhere near where your pet lies. Pets can be very sensitive to the energy of crystals. They will lie close to the crystal when they need the energy. They also NEED to be able to remove themselves from the crystal when they have had enough. I have not found it necessary to tie the crystal to their collar or horse blanket, or anything like that. For a dog or cat, just pop the little crystal bag onto a separate blanket in a quiet corner where they can go to relax. Please do make sure it is somewhere where no other animal or young child will pick it up and swallow it. Some crystals cannot be immersed in water, so it is best kept out of the weather. Another good place to put them is by the feed bowl.

Renown animal healer, Margrit Coates, has written a book titled “Hands on Healing for Pets” and in this she shows some easy ways to connect more with your pet. Margrit talks about the animal’s chakras, horoscopes and their thoughts about ‘death’. Do have a look at this book and consider purchasing it if you can.

Preparing the crystal I always like to “cleanse and charge” my crystals before I use them. You can make this as simple or as ritualistic as you like. Here are a few ways for you to consider which suits you best. 1. Hold the crystal under running water - a river stream, an ocean wave or the kitchen tap. Be sure to mentally and/or verbally bless and gives thanks to the water for the healing energy and love that it brings to your crystal. Visualise or ask that your crystal be empowered with all the traits of “crystal name” and that it bring healing for the highest good of all. 2. Smudge the crystal by holding it above the aromatic smoke from an incense cone or stick. You can smudge using white sage, which is traditional for releasing negative energies, or cedar, sandalwood and frankincense are equally good. As above, bless the incense and visualise your crystal being empowered with all its wonderful traits and ask that it be for the highest good of all. 3. Spray your crystal with a flower essence or aromatherapy spray. Bless and empower the crystal as I have mentioned above.

You can also place your crystal in the moonlight or sunlight for a while to energise it. Some of the paler colour crystals don’t like to be out in the sun too long as they start to lose their colour, so just keep an eye on them won’t you. The water we use to cleanse our crystal needs to be blessed. If you haven’t yet read any of Dr Emoto’s work with water then please take a look as soon as you can. Dr Emoto has taken photographs of water that has been energised by prayer or written words and the amazing crystals that form. A powerful, visual proof that positive thoughts do make a difference.

Choosing a crystal Here is something that everyone can do. Your pet will not be harmed if you have chosen the “wrong” crystal. Choosing a more appropriate crystal is great... and more is not necessarily better in this case. You can use a pendulum to guide your choice. Choose a piece of your own jewellery to use as a pendulum, or a small chain with something light on the end of it. When you are feeling relaxed and in a “good space” ask the pendulum to show you a yes. Thank it, and then ask it to show you a no. This can take a bit of practise. Keep trying until you can find the way it works best for you. When you get clear signals from the pendulum, hold the crystal in the other hand (easy for you to focus on it then) and ask the pendulum if this is the best crystal for your pet at this time. If you don’t have the crystal to hold, you can simply write down the name of the crystal, or focus on a picture of it. I have outlined below some of the crystals that work well with animals and are easy to purchase.

Crystals have many interpretations, and what I have written here is by no means the definitive guide. The retailer you purchase your crystals from may also have some ideas on what you can use. Sometimes I prefer to use the naturally formed crystals, rather than the tumbled ones, but it is personal preference. Himalayan Crystals are also amazing. I once gave one to a friend who put it in their bedroom where the dog slept, leaving it burning all night. Her ailing dog had the best nights sleep when his crystal was on. Indeed they are powerful and effective at ionising the air; mine is rarely turned off.

Amethyst Eases the pain of losing or being apart from a loved one. Soothes fears and stresses. Use in times of bereavement, grief, fear, separation and panic attacks. Chakra: Brow and Crown

Lapis Lazulli Aids assimilation of vitamins and minerals. Flushes toxins from the body. Helps with physical ailments, poor dietary assimilation and respiratory problems. Chakra: Throat and Brow

Black Tourmaline Balances and regulates the hormones. Protection against negativity and background radiation from computers etc. Chakra: Base

Malachite Corrects left/right brain imbalances Breaks unwanted compulsive patterns of behaviour Training problems Travel sickness Chakra: Base, Sacral, Solar Plexus and Heart Note: Do not immerse this crystal in water.

Clear Quartz Amplifies and directs energy for improved healing. Reduces pain, inflammation, damaged nerves and scar tissue. Highly-strung or hysterical animals Chakra: All Smoky Quartz Grounds, calms and sedates. Helps adjust to life changes Helps keep accident or trauma victims calm. Shock and Stress Chakra: Base, Sacral and Solar Plexus

What is the value of a 1988 Rose Bowl Football signed by all of USC's Players???

I have a Football that my parents bought @ a garage sale
it has 66 signatures of USC's 1988 Rose bowl team.
I have been offered difrent amounts of money
but not enough to help me get a target price in mind.
What do you guys suggest????

Its priceless to a USC fan, just remember if someone gives you an offer first, you need to shake your head and ask for twice as much if not more, you will never get more than your first offer and from there you must 'horse trade'

I know that a Joe Montana signed football is about 400-600 dollars and a Dan Marino football is about 300-500 dollars and the 1970's Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs football signed by everyone is about 600 on eBay.

2010 Super Bowl Mvp Betting – Super Bowl Mvp Odds

EA Sports and John Madden looked into their crystal ball and did all bettors a favor by letting them know not only the outcome of Super Bowl XLIV, but the simulated game they ran yesterday also pegged the MVP.

I feel sorry for all of those who already bet on someone other than Drew Brees, as it was none other than the Saints’ signal-caller who won the award in the Madden NFL Super Bowl matchup.

Online Betting sportsbooks have had the Super Bowl MVP prop betting option up for over a week. It is always one of the more popular options for the sports betting public.

Madden’s MVP, Brees, is currently the second most popular option with bettors, sitting right behind, as you might expect, Peyton Manning.

QBs are usually a decent choice for MVP betting, but history shows us that underdogs are worth looking at.

While Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw and Bart Starr were among the top players on their teams when they won the Super Bowl and were awarded the Pete Rozelle MVP trophy, Otis Anderson, Larry Brown, Desmond Howard and Dexter Jackson rose to the occasion to achieve Super Bowl MVP immortality.

Obviously, Manning (-150) and Brees (+300) are favorites when it comes to this year’s MVP prop odds but there are a number of other players that could rise to the occasion.

Indianapolis Colts

Both teams are known for their passing offenses.

With Manning at the helm, the Indianapolis Colts had the No.2-ranked passing offense (in terms of yards) during the regular season and are also second-best in the postseason.

That’s surprising considering prospective No. 1 wideout Anthony Gonzalez went down with a knee injury early in the season but young receivers Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon have really stepped up.

During the regular season, Garcon led the team, averaging 16.3 yards a catch while Collie was second on the team with seven receiving TDs — both are listed at +2000 to win the MVP.

Garcon and Collie are by no means the only weapons in the Colts’ aerial assault.

Peyton will also have ever-reliable TE Dallas Clark (+1400) and WR Reggie Wayne (+1200) to pass to.

Indy’s rushing attack lacks the pop of its passing game but nevertheless, there’s nothing that says RBs Joseph Addai (+1200) and Donald Brown (+5000) won’t win the Rozelle.

The chances of Colts DE Dwight Freeney playing are 50/50 thanks to his right ankle and even if he plays, his mobility will be hindered.

As a result, he is a +6600 longshot to be named MVP.

Safety Antoine Bethea led the team with four interceptions and LB Clint Session, who led the team in tackles, was third with a pair of picks and they are +9000 and +8000 to win the MVP respectively.

Wayne and Clark are getting some attention from the betting public, with 11% of the overall volume on Wayne and 9% on tight end Clark.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints also have a number of weapons on offense, whether by land or by air; they led the league in points scored during the regular season.

Amongst Brees’ many passing targets, Marques Colston (+1600), Devery Henderson (+3300), Robert Meachem (+4000) and Jeremy Shockey (+4000) have been on the, pardon the pun, receiving end of the QB’s passes.

New Orleans also has three running backs capable of making an impact.

Pierre Thomas (+1800) led the team in rushing with 793 yards and rushing TDs with six; Mike Bell (+8000) was second with 654 yards and was tied with Reggie Bush (+1400) for No. 2 with five rushing TDs.

S Darren Sharper (+2800) was a force in the Saints’ secondary with 15 passes defensed and nine INTs.

LB Jonathan Vilma and safety Roman Harper (both +9000) were one and two in team tackles with 110 and 102 respectively.

While Brees is the big gun on this squad, and is attracting most of the money for Saints players, Kim Kardashian’s boyfriend Reggie Bush has been grabbing a few bucks from the bettors as well. In fact, for someone who has been largely a complimentary player all season, he is currently sitting with 11% of the overall volume bet on the MVP prop.

We’ll see who steps up with special performance on Super Bowl Sunday.

How do I get my beautiful 7 month old Maltese X Pom to stop nibbling my fingers?

His teeth are getting sharp and I have cuts all over my hands.

Does not matter how pretty the dog is, nibbling and biting the hand that feeds it is NEVER attractive! :)
He is at an age where he will be swapping out puppy teeth for adult teeth and it feels GOOD for him to bite; this will continue until he is about a year old.
In a pack or litter situation the mom or siblings would yelp and bite back. You can't exactly do that however you can try the following:
1) a firm "no", "no bite", (or even a yelp)
2) put the dog down (by that I mean roll it over on its back and firmly hold it there a few seconds; this demonstrates that you are the alpha and call the shots)
3) immediately stop the play session, however substitute something that is appropriate for it to chew on, for example a nylabone, hard rubber bone, natural bone, or Kong toy

Is there anywhere I can look up old / historic news articles?

Digital copies of old newspapers are available online, however you may still need to go through the library (website) because they generally are contained in databases (which are not searchable through Internet search engines).

Digitiziation is an expensive process so there are still newspapers which will only be available through microfilm. Database subscriptions are expensive as well, but you can go through your local library system and see what potential newspaper databases are available to you. If you're not sure, contact your lcoal librarian (many librarians now offer virtual reference help as well) - that's what they're there for.

Researching The Historical Novel, Part II

I have mentioned previously that the Romance genre is almost a sure bet, and that mystery stories are a pretty close second. I also included adventure in the popular list, but particularly dwell on the historical novel because it not only has remained popular through the years, but recently has experienced somewhat of a growth period, as has the formerly almost dormant western.

I also have intimated that in no other genre, is research the most dominant requirement. A historical novel, above all else, must be accurate in its historical details. In my previous discussion, I covered some of the problems encountered in researching the historical novel.

There are a number of others, with which one must contend. If one selects a period in antiquity, such as Costain's previously mentioned The Black Rose, one will find a great deal of confusion and overlapping descriptions of both terrain and the people living there. A prime example, is offered by wandering groups of marauding nomads who invaded China's northwestern borders in the waning B.C. years. Reportedly, their depredations were so annoying as to cause erection of the first part of the Great Wall in Gansu. These Xiongnu were described and often called "Huns," by early eighteenth century writers. The grave confusion occurs because the Chinese destroyed the Xiongnu in the second century A.D., and no evidence ever has surfaced that there had ever been any westward migration of the Xiongnu. Attila, the Hun, and his hoards, did not appear and begin their devastating raids in Europe until some two hundred years later.

This is just one of the myriad problems one can experience in attempting to set a story in such a out-of-the-way time and place. The research must be thorough, because if it is not, someone is going to spot it. Before starting a novel in this era, I might suggest perusal of Frances Wood's, The Silk Road, as an excellent place to begin. It is well researched and beautifully written. Also, a novel by Sam Barone, entitled Dawn of Empire, is a well-written example of a fairly recently published novel set in a similar early era.

Another factor that I mentioned briefly in an earlier discussion, is that of geography. I recalled the tremendous change that had taken place in the seashore area just outside of Marbella, Spain in just a few short years. These changes are not unique. All of Europe has, and is, changed quite drastically. Certain, mostly desert parts, of Morocco and Algiers have changed little except for the eternal movement of the sands. The rest provides horrendous mixes of the new with the old. Parts of Ireland remain pretty much as they were, but even the once remote Ring of Kerry has encountered much change.

If one is to write about the United States, one must remember the tremendous changes that have taken place here, as well. One has only to remember, for a graphic example, some of the recent motion pictures depicting New York City at the turn of the century. Other changes that are more difficult to remember, and perhaps picture, are the 'Great American Desert' that once covered much of the southwestern part of the country, and the once untenanted Llano Estacado that now is heavily populated and even contains whole cities.

Characterization is a third major factor that one must consider in the historical genre. Individual personalities, perhaps have changed little. Anger, jealousy, pettiness, fear, magnanimity, have all existed for eons of time. However, the mores of the various societies in which these personalities live, have undergone a tremendous revolution. Those of the ancients contrast sharply with those of the Renaissance, the Elizabethan, and every other marked period of history, as they do from nationality to nationality; viz, the duena system of courtship in Spanish society, or the Creole institution of placage in Old New Orleans.

So, if one wishes to write in the historical genre, each and every one of these factors must be carefully considered and researched. It is not an easy task if one does not enjoy spending countless hours perusing numerous sources. However, if you enjoy such pursuits, you will find many rewards well worth the time.

how can a plains landscape change to a mountain landscape throught time?

Earthquakes pushing up the land on fault lines, volcanoes, glacial activity carving away soft earth and leaving the rocks and other hard earth. These are just a few of the things that cause mountains to form over time.

Cathedral Mountain, the best of winter in Bariloche

Cathedral Mountain is probable the best image of the winter atractions in Bariloche. This magnificent mountain has two sides, the southern one with many stone needles that gives to it the name of a gothic temple and are the perfect place for mountaineering; and the northeast side, with smooth slopes, where is located one of the best ski centers in Southamerica, Antonio Lynch Winter Center, most known as Cathedral Mountain.

For its characteristics, Cathedral Mountain is one of the best places for winter sports. It counts with a slope of 60 degrees and its longest ski run brings a descend of 9 kilometers without interruptions. The highest track off piste is at 2180 meters over the level of the sea, so the expert skiers can slide through it admiring the overwhelming landscape, from the top to the base.

The whole mountain elevates over 2300 meters and has 600 hectares of surface, with ski runs, ski lifts, beautiful forest and the area of the base, where is Villa Catedral, a place with excellent services and many hotels with 3, 4 or 5 stars of category, with all the amenities and services needed for the visitors.

Inside Villa Catedral there is Las Terrazas Shopping Center, with a commercial gallery, stores and a food court with different kind of menus. Other commercial spot is Paseo Plaza Amancay, located inside the Amacay chairlift. Here there is a big restaurant, ski rental stores, ski schools and the lobby of some hotels of the base. And for the amusement of the visitors by night, there are also a disco and a Casino, inside the Hotel Club Catedral.

Cathedral Mountain offers many stores for ski rental, with the best equipment and excellent technology. The Ski Resort has 7000 ski equipment and 1500 for snowboard, plus sledges and snowshoes for hiking in the snow, so the visitors only need their enthusiasm to slide across the perfect 53 ski runs of the complex, full conditioned for the best experience, counting also with artificial snow machines to create the ideal thickness in the ground.

The ski center counts with ski runs of different levels for every kind of skiers. The highest of the ski tracks is located at 1950 meters above the level of the sea. To get to the tracks, Cathedral Mountain has 39 ski lifts, among chairlifts and media drag to get to every corner in the mountain.

In Cathedral Mountain the visitors can practice every kind of ski, nordic ski, alpine ski and snowboard, using tracks specially conditioned with bumps and obstacles, like the Terrain Park, a place where sports event are developed such as the Big Air Reef, Rip Curl Winter Search, among others.

During the summertime, those same ski runs are used to practice mountain bike or mountain board, sliding in special boards with rubber wheels. Other activities that the mountain offers are rappel, climbing, trekking, canopy for children, horseback riding and skating in a skate park.

After an excellent day at the snow, in Villa Catedral the visitors can enjoy of the gastronomy in the exquisite restaurants of the base, which prepare delicious patagonian plates and international cooking. There are also coffee shops in higher spots to take a break and eat a sandwich or a hot drink.

Cathedral Mountain is located at just 19 kilometers from Bariloche, so the visitors can also discover this enchanting city in argentinean Patagonia, that also counts with transfers to the Ski Resort. Take the adventure and visit this wonderful place, with incredible summits, forests and landscapes.

Where can I find this Rurouni Kenshin Fanfiction?

I'm looking for a Rurouni Kenshin fanfiction story with the title something along the lines of "Fireflies of the Meiji Era" or something around that. It's set after the series, Sano returns from traveling and him and Misao end up together. Sano joins the Oniwaban as head of security. Kenshin and Karou are planning on having another baby so Kenji won't hate his father so much.

Learn About Japanese Culture and How Light Is Made In Ancient Time

"We may simply have lost our appreciation of hand-crafted goods." Igarashi san has been making chochin paper lanterns in his little shop for his full life. His pop too, and his grandfatherand great granddad and even great, great grandfather. The tools & plant that surround him today, in reality, have outlasted his ancestors, their wooden surfaces worn smooth with age. Since the beginning of the Meiji era (1868 - 1912) Kanazawa citizens have been buying Igarashi chochin from the store, in the heart of old Kanazawa's merchant district, near the back of the castle. The shelves are stacked high with beautifully decorated lanterns - colourful spurts of colour peppering the dusty confines of the tiny workshop.

Chochin lanterns have a reasonably long history in Japan - there's evidence of them being employed in temples in the 10th century - and were used essentially as a movable method of lighting. Only often used inside, they traditionally hung outside a place, church or business or else in the entrance, prepared to be suspended on a pole and carried before any one going out at night. Igarashi-san reckons that at a previous point they were so widely used there would be been around 40 or 50 chochin shops just in Kanazawa. Today there remain only himself and one other local craftsman in the trade and the other fellow (Matsuda-san) has long since diversified, making traditional umbrellas his mainstay.

Making a chochin is a fiddly, fairly delicate procedure despite the attractively simple appearance of the end product. And, when asked what are the most important qualities in his profession Igarashi-san responses, his bright eyes dead heavy, "patience and concentration." The average sized lantern according to Igarashi-san, at about 30 cm across, can be produced at a rate of roughly 2 a day by one man including almost all of the painting. However some really massive ones have left the Igarashi shop over the years - his largest was a matsuri monster measuring 5 shaku ( one shaku = 30.3cm in the old Eastern measuring system ) in diameter with an intricate year of the rabbit design on it. The old lantern maker is pragmatic about the fact that people want cheaper, mass-produced, plastic covered lanterns today - he even sells them himself - but he is confident in the certainty that a well-made paper lantern is a nice thing, superior in a number of ways to these garish modern impostors.

"You can correct a good chochin," he tells us, "you can replace one rib or fix a hole in the paper no problem." "Plastic lanterns have no internal frame and can't be patched." A paper lantern regardless of how well made lasts only about a year (natural beauty is always fleeting ) while a plastic one might last twice that and cost half as much. On top of that, we as a society may have simply lost our appreciation for handmade goods. Price has become our main motivation as clients. We do not care to know how things were made these days, or who made them, or else Igarashisan would be the prosperous head of a chain of shops.

The walls of the Igarashi Chochinya and his ready-to-hand scrapbook sport innumerable monochrome photos and press clippings showing a proud, broad-shouldered young man with robust, thick arms and a fetching smile showing off elegant paper spheres with matsuri lights glimmering in the background. Modestly showing us them, his warm, friendly grin only slips slightly as he tells us that he's going to be the last of his family line making lanterns here.
